In our data most long VPN plans cost more per month after the first term than during it; the same plan can also show a different price per country, and some providers change their prices from day to day.
These are the key figures from the price data we collect ourselves. Each figure comes with the count behind it, so you can see what it rests on. The tables are recalculated from the data every time the site is built (last: 2026-11-02).
Renewal: what a plan costs after the first term
For 22 plans from 11 providers we compared the price per year in the first term of the longest plan with the price per year at renewal, as stated on the pricing page for Belgium.
- 16 of 22 plans cost more per year after the first term (7 of 11 providers).
- 12 plans at least double in price at renewal.
- The median increase over all 22 plans is 106 %; over the plans that do get more expensive it is 126 %.
- The largest increase in our data: NordVPN Complete, from 47.88 to 219.48 EUR per year (+358 %).
- 6 plans renew at the same price per year.

Dollar prices only (these providers show no euro price)
The first-term price per year is the amount billed up front divided by the months it covers (bonus months included), times twelve. Where the pricing page shows no amount up front, we use the price per month the page itself shows. The renewal price per year is the renewal amount divided by the renewal term, times twelve. Country: the same plan, a different price
From 2026-11-01 to 2026-11-02 we read the pricing pages from BE, NL, DE, FR, GB, US. For 14 plans from 7 providers that show a price per country, the largest difference for the same plan and term, converted to euro, was 25 %. For 9 of those plans the price in another currency is the same number as in euro. The full comparison: VPN prices by country.
Price changes: how often a price moves
From 2026-10-08 to 2026-11-02 we followed 576 price series (provider × plan × term × country) for the 7 providers that show a price per country. We count a change when a reading shows a price per month that series had not shown before; a price that jumps back to an earlier amount is not counted again.
- 1 of 7 providers did not change a single price in that period.
- Without Surfshark, we counted 183 new prices in 183 series.
“Days read” is the number of days with at least one reading; a provider read on fewer days has had fewer chances to show a change.
