Same VPN, different price per country: what we recorded

Open the pricing page of a VPN provider from two countries and you can get two different prices for the same plan. We load those pages from six countries and keep what they show. This page puts the readings side by side so you can see how large the differences really are.

In our latest readings (up to 2026-11-02) we could compare 14 plans from 7 providers across 6 countries. For 9 of those 14 plans the price in US dollars is the same number as the price in euros. The largest gap between two countries for one plan, converted to euro, is 25 %.

The same plan in six countries

Prices per month as each provider's pricing page showed them to a visitor with an IP address in that country, read between 2026-11-01 and 2026-11-02. Tax added at checkout is not included. Amounts after ≈ are converted with the ECB euro reference rates of 2026-10-30 (1 euro = 1.1172 US dollar = 0.8338 pound sterling). The gap is the difference between the lowest and the highest country, as a percentage of the highest.

NordVPN also shows plans that we saw in fewer than four of these countries: NordVPN Ultra (Belgium); Prime (United States).

For each plan the table shows the longest term we read in at least four of the six countries. An amount after ≈ is our conversion to euro; the amount above it is what the page showed. “First payment” is the amount charged on day one, where the page stated it.

How to read the gap

• It compares displayed prices. We read the public pricing page and do not go through checkout. Some providers add VAT or sales tax at checkout depending on where you live, so two countries with the same displayed price can still end up with a different amount on the invoice.
• It moves with the exchange rate. A price in pounds or dollars that does not change still becomes cheaper or more expensive in euro when the rate moves. The table is rebuilt every night with the most recent ECB reference rate, shown in the note under it.
• The months can differ. A provider sometimes adds extra months to the first term in one country and not in another. Where the first payment covers a different number of months than the term, the cell says so; the price per month is the one the page showed.
• It is a reading, not a promise. Each cell is what the page showed on the date we loaded it from an IP address in that country. Offers change weekly.

Why the price follows your country

A provider that sells in several currencies has to pick a price in each of them. Most pick a round, familiar-looking amount per currency and leave it there, instead of recalculating it from one base price whenever exchange rates move. That is why you will often find the same number with a different currency sign, and why the euro countries in the table usually show identical amounts while the United Kingdom and the United States differ.

Some providers also change the offer itself per country: extra months in one place, a different name or content for the most expensive plan in another. Where we saw a plan in fewer than four of the six countries, it is listed under the table instead of in it. Surfshark goes further: from the same country it shows one of three sets of prices per visit, which we measured for a week.

Providers with one price everywhere

These providers showed us the same price whichever country we loaded the page from, in a single currency. If that currency is not yours, your bank or card does the conversion, at its own rate.

Do you need a VPN to pay less for a VPN?

No. The gaps in the table come from currency pricing, and for most plans they are smaller than the difference between a provider’s first-term price and its renewal price. The amount that decides what you really pay is the first payment in your own currency plus what the plan renews at. Our provider pages show prices for the country you visit from where we have a reading for it, and for Belgium otherwise.
