Windscribe vouchers and promo codes: what Windscribe says itself

A search for a Windscribe promo code, coupon or voucher can mean three things: a code for free data, a code that lowers the price, or simply the best deal of the moment. This page puts what Windscribe itself writes about each next to the price we record.

The table shows the yearly plan from Windscribe’s pricing page next to its own monthly plan. Windscribe also sells “Build A Plan”, billed at $1.00 per location per month; that price depends on what you choose and is not in the table. The plans, the free tier and the sources are on the Windscribe page.

Voucher or promo code: two different things

You log in on windscribe.com, open the Billing tab and click Redeem Voucher in the Plan Information card. Windscribe adds two conditions. The button is not there if you are already on a Pro plan, and:

Please note that if you are on a Free account, you need to have a confirmed email address to get more data.

A promo code lowers the price of a paid plan. You log in, open the pricing page and scroll to the button “Have a promo code?”. After you submit the code, the page refreshes with the discount active.

What happened to the 20, 30 and 50 GB vouchers

Older voucher codes gave a free account 20, 30, 50 or 60 GB per month. Windscribe has ended those plans:

Windscribe decided to deprecate the bonus bandwidth plans we issued in previous years which is why you may have noticed your Free plan was downgraded to 10GB.

It gives the reason too. The plans were meant for users in countries with severe internet restrictions, and many people elsewhere claimed them as well. So a site that still lists a “50 GB voucher code” is describing something Windscribe says it no longer offers. We have not tried such codes ourselves.

More free data without a voucher

In the same article Windscribe names two ways that still exist:

• Refer a friend. “For each person who signs up using your link, you will get an extra 1GB of bandwidth per month.”
• Tweet for Data. Following the steps on your account page upgrades a free account “to the 15GB per month plan”.

The standard free plan is 10GB per month with a confirmed email address. Without one, Windscribe writes, the account is on the 2GB plan.

When Windscribe runs promotions

Windscribe answers this in its help centre:

Typically we offer these around major holidays or events such as Canada Day/Independence Day (first week of July) or around Christmas/New Years (last week of the year). And of course during Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

We do not predict what those offers will be. We record the price, so you can compare an offer with what Windscribe charged in the weeks before: Black Friday, checked against our record.

What to check before you pay

1. Which page you are looking at. With a promo code active, the pricing page shows the discounted price. Windscribe gives a link to see the page without it: windscribe.com/upgrade?promo=NOPROMO.
2. What happens at renewal. The pricing page says of each plan: “Renews automatically. Cancel anytime.” Check on the payment page which amount renews; how providers differ on this: what a VPN really costs.
3. Whether the free plan is enough. If 10GB per month covers what you do, you do not need a code or a paid plan at all.

How we follow the Windscribe price
