Cookie policy

VPN Lookup does not set any cookies and does not use local storage, session storage, tracking pixels or third-party analytics scripts. Because nothing is stored on your device, there is no cookie banner. We do measure how the site is used, with a script of our own; this page explains how, and how you switch it off. Two exceptions, and only if you ask for them: the button below that switches the measurement off, and the currency you pick under a price table, are stored as a choice in your browser.

How we measure visits

We count page views from our own web server logs, which are written without your IP address.

In addition, a small script of our own reports what happens on a page: which page it is, how far it is scrolled, how long it stays open, which buttons, links and filters are clicked, how fast the page loaded, and whether a script error occurred. It sends this to our own server. No analytics company receives it.

To see that two pages belong to the same visit, our server computes a visit code from your IP address, your browser’s user-agent and language setting, and a secret key that we replace every night. We store the code, never the IP address. Once the key is deleted the code cannot be recomputed or traced back to an address, and the next day your visit gets a different code. We can follow one visit within one day; we cannot recognise a visitor across days.

The script stores nothing on your device: no cookie, no local storage, no session storage. It does not read fonts, canvas, plug-ins or similar device characteristics to recognise you (fingerprinting). The only thing it reads from the browser beyond what happens on the page is the width of the window, which we store as a size class such as “phone” or “desktop”.

We do not ask for consent for this measurement. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site, and you can switch it off as described below. The privacy policy lists every field and how long we keep it.

Switching the measurement off

You can switch the measurement off right here, for this browser. Your choice is remembered in this browser’s local storage (one item named vl-optout); it is saved only when you press the button and is never sent to us.

If you pick a currency yourself under a price table, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage (one item named vl-cur, for example “USD”), so the next page shows the same currency. That choice too is saved only when you make it and is never sent to us.

If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the script does not connect to our server and sends nothing. Both are signals your browser sends by itself: Firefox, Brave and the DuckDuckGo browser have Global Privacy Control built in, other browsers offer it through an extension. The web server log still counts the page request, without IP address.

Our CDN

The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which acts as our processor. Cloudflare may, in specific situations such as a suspected attack, set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell real visitors from automated abuse. Such cookies are exempt from consent because the site cannot be delivered securely without them. We have not enabled any optional Cloudflare feature that sets cookies.

When you click through to a VPN provider

Links to providers leave this site. The provider’s website will usually set its own cookies, including one that records that you arrived via VPN Lookup. Those cookies are set by the provider on the provider’s domain, under the provider’s cookie policy and consent banner, not by us.

Changes

If we ever introduce a cookie or similar technology that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first and update this page. The measurement script described above is being introduced in October 2026; this page was updated before it went live. Last updated: 13 October 2026.
